a pass is a tier as a plan that renews itself, monthly or yearly, paid from your wallet in any currency a seal can be priced in. your wallet, metamask as a smart account, grants debords a permission to take the plan's price once a period and nothing more: you confirm it once, and stopping the renewing on your account page, whenever you like, revokes it too; you can also revoke it in metamask at any time. a year costs ten months or less. a month is 30 days and a year 365.

a higher tier starts at once, the time left on your pass credited at its price, so nothing is taken until that time runs out; a lower tier, or the other period, starts when the time paid ends. a payment that doesn't go through is tried again each day for a week while your pass holds.
